The renewal of African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) to 2025, has been well received as economies in Sub-Saharan Africa strive to attain Millennium Development and Vision 2030 goals.

The Act passed by Congress is an affirmative action to uplift the standards of living for the citizens of Sub-Saharan Africa by opening up US Markets to products from the qualifying countries. AGOA, enacted by congress in 2000 was initially set to expire in October 2015 but intensive lobbying by respective governments and trade organizations, paved way for a 10 year extension.

In Kenya, efforts are being made to create awareness on the list of eligible products and requirements for the country to maximize exports of products beyond the textiles and apparels that the dominated the first phase of AGOA.
